Cheltenham-based business services company Commercial supported a tree planting day at Heartwood Forest in association with the Woodland Trust.

Employees from Commercial helped plant several thousand trees, along with a representative from engineering specialist Mott Macdonald, a customer of Commercial’s.

The Carbon Capture Tree Planting Day was coordinated by one of Commercial’s suppliers Premier Paper – the UK’s largest independent paper merchant. Using guidelines from The Carbon Trust and DEFRA, Premier calculates the equivalent amount of CO2 released from the production, storage and distribution of paper. Customers can opt to recapture that CO2 by planting native woodland in the Government-accredited Woodland Trust scheme.

Commercial’s Senior Sustainability Executive, Andrew McKenzie, says the team enjoys getting actively involved in tree planting.

“Our purchasing department chose Premier as the main paper supplier for our office supplies customers because of its strong sustainability credentials and engagement with the Woodland Trust,” McKenzie explains. “But actually putting your wellies on and digging on a cold winter’s day brings the initiative to life in a much more meaningful way. We’re really proud to support this scheme, and it’s great when we can share the experience with our customers.”
